Last Updated: January 24, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to Unhook. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your personal data is handled securely and transparently. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information across our Android, macOS, Windows, and Linux applications.

Unhook is operated by Adam Wawrzynski (tax ID: 5842823905), located at Starowiejska 67C/99, 80-534 Gdańsk, Poland.

2. Data We Collect

To provide our digital wellbeing services, we collect the following types of information:

3. What We Do NOT Collect

Your private content remains private. We do NOT collect, read, or store:

  • The content of your messages or emails.
  • The content of your notifications (text, images, or any personal data contained within a notification).
  • Passwords or any login credentials for other applications.
  • Your browsing history or specific website content.
  • Financial information or credit card numbers.
  • Your contacts or gallery photos.

Our blocking and tracking mechanisms are based on application metadata (package names and counts), not on reading the private content displayed or received within those applications.

4. Required Permissions and Core Functionality (Android)

To provide its core digital wellbeing services, Unhook requires specific Android permissions. These are essential for the application to function as intended:

Usage Access

Purpose: This permission allows Unhook to collect information about app usage patterns.

Function: We use this data to provide you with detailed statistics, comparisons, and insights into time spent on individual applications. This helps identify problematic behavior patterns and supports your digital detox journey.

Display Over Other Apps (Overlays)

Purpose: This permission allows Unhook to display screens over other applications.

Function: We use overlays to show mindful delay screens before you open a problematic app, feedback screens after usage, or blocking overlays to prevent access to manually restricted apps. These interventions are crucial for gathering user feedback on interactions and enforcing your chosen limits.

Accessibility Service API

Purpose: Monitoring foreground activity.

Function: In conjunction with the above permissions, this API helps us detect exactly when a restricted app is launched to trigger blocks or delays in real-time. We do NOT collect or transmit any sensitive personal data (passwords, keystrokes, messages) via this service.

Notification Access (Notification Listener Service)

Purpose: Tracking the number of incoming notifications per application.

Function: This permission allows Unhook to count notification events to provide you with digital wellbeing statistics and reports. This requires manual activation in system settings. We only collect metadata (package name and count) and never the content of the notifications.

These permissions are mandatory for the application to provide support, insights related to app usage, and pattern-based coaching.
